  1. Question

    Carl Harcourt

I have a Winpower 18/30 PT2 (SN: AA-474-3) alternator. I have had it since 1999 (remember the Y2K frenzy?). I have recently started to resurrect it, mainly minor rewiring, dead voltmeter, tracing the circuits, etc. This wiring diagram / schematic does not match the alternator wiring! The alternator wiring appears to be original from Winpower and in pretty good shape. I have found that the Winpower 15 PT2 wiring diagram resembles the actual wiring with some differences (which raises a couple of questions also). The 15 PT2 parts list has the transformer PN (EE 1952) used in my 18/30 PT2 alternator (incorrect PN EE-969).

    Questions:
    1. What is the numbering on the slip rings and where is slip ring 1?
    2. What is the value/wattage of the resistor (?)-154 on the 15 PT2 alternator?
    3. What is the capacitance/voltage rating of the capacitors (condensers?) on the 15 PT2 alternator?
    4. What is the resistance of the field coil(s) in the 15 PT2 alternator?

Carl, Unfortunately, because your generator was built in Newton, Iowa, we do not have the information you are looking for. That factory closed in 1985. Winco bought Winpower in 1996. It had re-located to Indiana when Winco acquired it. Information and parts are limited on the old Vintage Winpower generators.
