What battery for this model?

Admin admin –
Hey Bob,
On page 7 of the operator’s manual (available in the Product Downloads section), we recommend a BCI Group U1 battery with at least 235 CCA. The more Cold Cranking Amps your battery has, the better performance you will get from the battery in cold weather.
Let us know if you need anything else!

Pat Zak –
Speaking of cold weather, would it be wise to use a heating pad for the battery?
Do you sell one?

Pat,
We sell a battery heater 300484-3. Please call our Service Department @ 507-357-6831 if you wish to order that item.

i have a m# : CSAPSS8B/N ser# 44687 a99 used
is it possible to change it over from propane to natural gas
what parts would it take
thanks for you help
luke

Admin Dale Riebel –
Hi Luke. You do not need parts for the conversion from propane to natural gas for your model. There is a brass load block located on the top of the demand regulator that is your rich to lean adjustment. You would re-plumb for natural gas and adjust that load block as needed for fine-tune adjustment of the frequency once started. This is outlined in the operators manual for your model and is available from the “Downloads” section of this page. Give us a call in the Service Department @ 507-357-6831 if you have further questions or concerns. Thanks.

I have this model generator. I need to know which transfer switch I need. I have 200 amp service to house.

Hi Mike. You would use an ASCO 185 series transfer switch with that model. You can call our Sales Department @ 800-733-2112 and they will gladly help you with that. Or you can use our Dealer locator to find your closest Winco Dealer.

I am trying to find the board for this generator. I am not sure what it looks like either.

Also regarding to the comment I recently made. “I am trying to find the board for this generator. I am not sure what it looks like either.”
My generator cranks, but will not turn over. I had technician come out, and he was saying the board is bad. And, that it would cost me $500 for the board, plus his service hours. I looked at the volt regulator and it did not look in the best of shapes. I believe the resistors got burnt. Maybe by lighting or something. Not sure if that has anything to do with not being able to run the generator.

Admin Dale Riebel –
John,
The ECM (Engine Control Module) is the box assembly that houses the toggle switch, indicator light and dc circuit breaker. Inside the box assembly is a circuit board, fuse and wiring. This ECM starts and stops the engine. The voltage regulator is part of the engine charging system. If the charging system is defective it is possible that it damaged the circuit board. You would want to replace the ECM if it is not functioning and repair the charging system so it doesn’t damage a new ECM.

I’ve been looking for a maintenance kit for this. The previous owners neglected it.
I know it’s a Brigs & Stratton 303447, however after weeks of looking, I cannot find any kits or parts numbers for oil, air and plugs.
Anyone put me on the right course?
Thank you

Great product, faithfully serving since 1999.
1. As my CSAPSS8BN shuts down, I can hear a rattling sound (bearings?) coming from the generator (not the motor).
How serviceable is this? Is there a kit (or am I better off replacing the complete unit)?
2. The exhaust has been getting louder. Is there a replacement muffler available?

Gen worked fine until a few weeks ago. Switching to run, relay clicks but starter wont turn. Relay now most times buzzes a bit not a solid click. Occasionally solid click but starter still won’t turn. Does that mean faulty engine control board? Battery is fine.

Steven –
Are there any fuses or breakers that could blow and cause a crank no start situation. I have fuel, compression, air but no spark. I’m cranking by jumping the starter. The generator won’t start or crank when controls are switched to run (or automatic). I had a dead battery and had to jump with a car. The generator ran for 2 seconds then shut off now won’t start. I’m thinking fuse or bad coil. I have not yet put the multi meter to the coil.

Steven, please call our Technical Support Department @ 507-357-8334 and report those tests. They will be able to help you diagnose the issue. FYI, you should never “jump-start” your generator. You may have damaged the engine control module by doing so.

I have a PSS12H4WD Winco with a Asco 165. I am getting a 14 code at the transfer switch and the generator won’t shut off after the power comes back on and the transfer switch switches back to
I have a Winco PSS12H4WD with a Asco 165. Everything works ok except after the utility power comes back on, the transfer switch switches back to the utility power but the generator never shuts of. I am also getting a code 14 which is not a code in any of the info I can find. Anything you can tell me would be deeply appreciated. Thank you !! Roy

Is it possible to run without ATS?
Paul W Drost Jr –
I am thinking about buying this from a friend but it hasn’t ran in awhile I was wondering if it would start without being hooked up to anything? Just to see if it runs.

Paul, you do not need to connect it to a transfer switch. It has a manual start feature. Follow the installation instructions in the manual for installing the fuel supply.

My csapss8b starts and runs for about 3-4 min, then shuts down with the warning light on. I wait a minute or two and start it back up and it runs fine and stays running until I shut it down.
Worked great last summer
Changed the control board, spark plugs, oil, fuel solenoid. not sure why it stops and then will run fine after restart.

Dale Riebel –
William, the two reasons it will do that is no AC voltage output from the generator or the low oil pressure switch is shutting it off. Check AC voltage output first. If you have AC output, then remove wire 37 from the oil pressure switch and see if that makes any difference. Adjusting the valves is also part of engine maintenance that may be a contributing factor. I have a guide to do that under Service & Support / Engine Support on our website.

steven kenyon –
the right side of the engine has blown a hole in it the size of a pinky finger, I want to purchase a new right side engine cover,I believe this was a weak spot or had a bubble in it, engine turns over but will not start because there is no compression. the hole is perfectly round and I considered welding but am now leaning toward replaceing the right side cover, opposite the exaust side, any suggestions would be appreciated. Steve Kenyon 860 255 7881 thank you.

Question
Doug McClelland –
Model CSAPSS8B/N. While running, the positive battery connector momentarily became disconnected. The unit immediately shut down but now there is zero activity or noise (no starter motor activity) when I flip the switch to Run. I tried a different battery that I know is good. Is there a fuse or a breaker that might have gone? How might I fix this? Thanks!
Upvote if this was helpful (0) Downvote if this was not helpful (0) Watch Flag for removal
Dale Riebel –
Doug, there is a 3/4 amp in-line fuse located inside the engine control module (ECM) assembly. The ECM is the box that houses the toggle switch, etc. You probably blew that fuse. If you can’t find a replacement 3/4 amp fuse, you can replace it with a 1 amp fuse. If you have further questions, please contact our Technical Support Department at 507-357-8334 or [email protected]. Or you can use our Dealer Locator, on our website, to find your closest Winco Service Dealer.

Question
Ken Wirthlin –
Hi, I have a CSAPSS8B/N ser#14844A97 Generator. It has always worked well until the other day. It started up and was running for a while making power to the house as expected. It then shut down and set off the alarm light. Since then it starts up after a reset and runs 3 minutes then shuts down and sets off the light. How would I check the AC output? I don’t have a transfer switch just a manual breaker in the garage.Thank you for your thoughts. Ken Wirthlin
