  1. Question

I purchased a 4PTH-3E/J Winco 4kW generator in 1984 and if finally quick working in Sept. 2021. Engine fine but no voltage. I downloaded and read the “winco_60711-020_rotating_arm_ts_guide.pdf” but it isn’t specific to my 4PTH-3E. The brushes appear to be held on by 4 screws securing a plate under a fixed housing. Do you have anybody that remembers how to service the brushes?

Thanks Dale. I was able to disassemble the generator but I can see that I can’t reassemble without some kind of AC brush restrainers that hold the brushes closed while reinstalling the field coil assembly. Do yo have a picture with measurements of the tool used by Winco to restrain the brushes during assembly?

Also, one of the radio frequency interference suppressor AC capacitors has an internal short preventing any power output. It must be replaced but Dan in Winco sales told me that the part is obsolete and no longer available. Do yo have access to an old schematic that shows the capacitor’s temperature, voltage and capacitance ratings? Armed with that I can find a substitute. I know the generator will run just fine without the AC capacitor but I want to keep it RF quiet.

Roy, unfortunately we have no records of such a tool.
